Proud to celebrate a
historic victory for marriage equality—& the courage & determination of
LGBT Americans who made it possible
In USA’s presidential
election 2016, Mrs. Hillary Clinton is not only interested in the garnering the
votes of working class or women’s votes or Hispanic votes , but also the votes
of LGBT population. In other words, Mrs.
Clinton is fully aware of
the struggle and fights by the LGBT communities to get legal recognition to
their rights.
Under the heading
"It’s time for full equality for LGBT Americans: Stand with Hillary in the
fight for all LGBT Americans to be able to live, learn, work, and marry free
from discrimination," the Clinton presidential 2016 campaign released a
video displaying lots of same-sex couples marring across the nation in the last
decade, as the tide has turned in favour of LGBT rights now.
The U.S Supreme Court in its land mark judgement on 26th
June 2015 held that U.S constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage.
U.S Supreme Court observed that for LGBT, right to marriage cannot be denied,
and further observed that the plaintiffs’ in this case were looking for “equal
respect in the eyes of the law.”
U.S. Supreme court verdict
on the legalization of gay marriage, which placed a full-stop for ongoing decades
of litigation and judicial activism in this regard.
Welcoming the
U.S.Supreme Court’s ruling on legalizing gay marriages in all the fifty states
in U.S.A, Hillary Clinton observed that “ All should have the opportunity to
live up to our God-given potential.” She
claimed that this success for the LGBT community was not easily won and it took
decades for the supporters in fighting and organizing and campaigning not only
in public squares but also in private spaces to transform not only the laws but
minds and hearts.
In her e-mail communication to her supporters, Mrs.
Hillary Clinton said that today is one of those days, we'll tell our
grandchildren about. Marriage equality is now the law
in all 50 states.
From Stonewall to today’s decision, the courage and determination of the LGBT community has changed hearts, minds, and laws. Generations of advocates and activists sacrificed so much for this victory.
This is our country at its best: inclusive, open, and striving towards true equality.
But the struggle for LGBT rights doesn’t end with this triumph. Our work is not finished until every American can not only marry, but live, work, pray, learn, and raise a family free from discrimination and prejudice.
