Hillary Clinton: The cure for Citizens United is more democracy

Hillary Clinton: The cure for Citizens United is more democracy
I'll fight to restore the full protections of the Voting Rights Act.

In an article that has been published in CNN, Hillary Clinton writes as follows:

In 2008, Republicans faced a choice. America had just elected a Democratic president. The Senate was majority-Democratic. The House of Representatives had more Democrats than at any time since 1992.
The Republicans could either change themselves -- by embracing the young, diverse and tolerant America of the 21st century -- or they could try to change whose voices count in our democracy.
We all know the cynical path they chose. Six years ago Thursday, the Supreme Court's decision in Citizens United transformed our politics by allowing corporations to spend unlimited amounts of money to influence elections.
The effect was immediate. In the 2010 midterms, outside groups spent nearly 60% more than in 2006. In 2014, the top 100 donors spent nearly as much as all 4.75 million small donors combined. National networks of big-money donors funnelled mountains of cash into targeted state races. By 2014, one party controlled both the governor's mansion and the state legislature in 36 states -- the most since the 1950s.

Restricting voting rights

Meanwhile, Republicans launched an aggressive campaign to restrict voting rights across the country. After the 2010 election, lawmakers in 41 states introduced at least 180 measures designed to make it harder for people to vote. This ugly effort got a boost in 2013 when the Supreme Court made another disastrous ruling, striking down hard-won Voting Rights Act protections. Today, 21 states have new laws restricting voting rights.
And some of the greatest damage to voting rights has come in states with single-party control -- like North Carolina, which eliminated same-day voter registration and slashed early voting; Florida, which instituted such heavy restrictions on voter registration drives that the League of Women Voters had to shut down operations; and Alabama, which passed a strict photo ID requirement and then closed dozens of driver's license offices across the state, making it much harder for citizens to get the IDs they now need to vote.

Put it all together -- the flood of corporate money in our elections, the rise of single-party control of state governments, the sharp increase in voting-rights restrictions -- and the result is unmistakable. Our democracy is being hollowed out. And that should offend every American, no matter what party you belong to.

Reclaim our democracy

We can't let this continue. It's time to reclaim our democracy, reform our distorted campaign finance system and restore access to the ballot box in all 50 states.

That starts with reversing Citizens United. And that's where my comprehensive plan to restore common sense to campaign finance begins. As president, I'll appoint Supreme Court justices who recognize that Citizens United is bad for America. And if necessary, I'll fight for a constitutional amendment that overturns it.

Meanwhile, we need more transparency in our politics. In the last three elections, more than $600 million in donations came from unknown, untraceable sources. That's a lot of secret, unaccountable money. As president, I'll require federal contractors to fully disclose their political spending. I'll call on the Securities and Exchange Commission to require that publicly traded companies do the same. And I'll fight for legislation requiring the disclosure of all significant political donations, no matter where they come from or who they benefit. Whether you're a Democrat or a Republican, you should have to identify your donors.

We should also make it easier for Americans to run for elected office. You shouldn't have to be rich or well-connected to serve. I'll fight to create a robust small-donor matching system, so people with good ideas and a passion for public service know that they can run without having to court big donors and special interests.

Make it easier to vote

Finally, we have to do a much better job of protecting Americans' voting rights. Nothing is more vital to our democracy. I'll fight to restore the full protections of the Voting Rights Act. And I'll go further, because we should be making it easier to vote, not harder.

All Americans should be automatically registered to vote on their 18th birthdays, unless they opt out. Every state should have at least 20 days of early in-person voting. And no one should ever have to wait more than 30 minutes to cast a ballot.

Citizens United and its aftermath have twisted and perverted our democratic system. Now the deck is stacked even more in favour of those at the top. But as Al Smith, another Democrat from New York, once said, "All the ills of democracy can be cured by more democracy." So that's what we need now: more transparency, more accountability, and above all, more citizens exercising their right to vote.

This November, we can show Republicans that they made the wrong choice eight years ago. Let's restore people's voices and people's votes to their rightful place -- at the centre of our democracy.

HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGN ENDORSES HILLARY CLINTON FOR PRESIDENT

HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGN ENDORSES HILLARY CLINTON FOR PRESIDENT

HRC (Human Rights Commission) today announced its endorsement of Hillary Clinton for President. HRC’s Board of Directors, comprised of 32 community leaders from across the nation, unanimously voted to endorse Secretary Clinton -- an endorsement she will accept next Sunday, January 24 at an event in Des Moines, Iowa with HRC President Chad Griffin and the organization’s members and supporters.

Today’s endorsement comes at a time when the stakes could not be higher for the LGBT community.

HRC President Chad Griffin said “While Republicans fight to take us backwards, Hillary Clinton is fighting to advance LGBT equality across our nation and throughout the world. We are proud to endorse Hillary Clinton for president, and believe that she is the champion we can count on in November -- and every day she occupies the Oval Office.”

Secretary Clinton has made LGBT equality a pillar of her campaign and recently unveiled the most robust and ambitious LGBT plan any candidate for president has ever laid out. She has vowed to fight for the Equality Act.

Clinton also has a long record as a champion for LGBT rights both in the U.S. and, notably, around the globe. As Secretary of State, Clinton became the first in her position to robustly advocate for LGBT equality throughout the world, making a historic and forceful speech to the United Nations declaring that “gay rights are human rights.” In the Senate, she helped lead on bills to protect LGBT workers from employment discrimination, and had a strong record on key votes and legislation that mattered to LGBT Americans.

Past and Present Obama’s Cabinet Officials who have endorsed Hillary Clinton

Eric Holder Endorses Hillary Clinton
Former Attorney General Eric Holder endorsed Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination on Wednesday, praising his former administration colleague's plans to tackle a wide range of issues, from gun violence to college affordability.

"Our next president can't shy away from building on the progress of President Obama, which is why Hillary Clinton is the candidate that we need in the White House," .

Ahead of Sunday's debate in Charleston, Holder will campaign for Clinton in South Carolina.

Holder, who is a partner at the law firm Covington & Burling, said that Clinton has the "experience and right judgment to deliver results for families across the country."
"I've seen her deal with the issues that will confront the next president first-hand, and she has bold plans to address police brutality, fight for common-sense reforms to our gun laws, get incomes rising, and make college affordable," the former attorney general said, according to the full statement tweeted by a CNN reporter.
A Republican president, Holder said, would "tear down our progress on civil rights, health care and curbing gun violence."
"It can't and won't happen under Hillary who has spent her life taking on the toughest fights," he said, according to the statement.

Past and Present Obama’s Cabinet Officials who have endorsed Hillary Clinton
Holder is one of several past and present Obama Cabinet officials to endorse the former secretary of state, including former Defence Secretary Leon Panetta and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar. Current Cabinet officials who have endorsed Clinton include Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro, Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx, Labor Secretary Tom Perez and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.

The Need to Elect Mrs Hillary Clinton as the Next U.S.A's President

SEE WHAT OBAMA ACHIEVED DURING HIS PRESIDENCY.

Losing 800,00 job per month
Gaining 200,000 jobs per month

·        During his last two tenures, President Obama is able to extend the Marriage Equality Act to all the 50 States in U.S.A.

·        President Obama is able to keep the unemployment rates to 8.8% now which stood at 15.4% in 2009

·        Due to Obama Care (Which Republicans are trying to block), now wide gap in uninsured Americans numbers have come down to 8.8% in 2016 from that of 15.4% in 2009.

·        Due to Obama         economic policy (like avoiding wars like Vietnam or Iraq) the employment opportunities have grown up in U.S.A as it is gaining 200,000 jobs per month as opposed to losing 800,000 jobs per month.

To keep the economic trend and growth rate, it is essential to vote for a seasoned and experienced leader like Hillary Clinton.
Americans should see that Madam Hillary Clinton is elected as the next President of U.S.A in the coming presidential election to maintain and kindle the economic growth and to upkeep what Obama has achieved.

Hillary Clinton comes out against deportation raids in break with Obama

Hillary Clinton comes out against recent deportation raids in break with Obama

Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton joined her rivals Monday in opposing the Obama administration's deportation raids targeting Central American immigrants who entered the U.S. illegally and ignored deportation orders.

Speaking at a forum aimed at young and minority voters in Iowa, Clinton said the raids had "sown fear and division in immigrant communities across the country. People are afraid to go to work. They are afraid to send their kids to school. They are afraid to go to the hospital, or even the grocery store."

However, on Monday she called for government-funded counsel for unaccompanied minors in immigration court, as well as more funding for asylum officers, translators and immigration judges.

"We have laws and we must be guided by those laws,' Clinton said earlier, "but we shouldn’t have armed federal officers showing up at peoples’ homes, taking women and children out of their beds in the middle of the night."

The comments marked Clinton's clearest break with Obama, whom she served as secretary of state during the president's first term.

The first of the raids reportedly were conducted last week in Texas and Georgia, with more expected across the country.
