As a Mother , I’m beyond disappointed

Seeing the number of Americans who supported Donald Trump last night is shocking.

I’m a mother.

I don’t want our daughters growing up in an America that embraces Donald Trump’s sexism.

I don’t want our daughters to have a President who calls women “ugly” and repeatedly attacks female journalists and leaders.

As our daughters grow into young women, I can’t imagine explaining why their President treats women differently than men.

We cannot expect girls to grow up believing in themselves with someone like Trump as the President of our country. That’s why we all need to join together today and denounce him. Will you add your name to our petition and denounce his sexism?

Now more than ever, Democrats must take a strong stance against sexism.

We must rebuke candidates who talk down to, dismiss, and mock women simply because they can.

We should be building a nation where both genders feel empowered and heard. Where women and girls are respected and recognized as capable and equals. That is the progressive America we deserve.

If Americans join together right now to denounce Donald Trump, I know that we will defeat him. But it’s going to take all of us working together.

Hillary Attacks Bernie Sanders as the Supporter of Gun Makers and Sellers

Mrs. Clinton said legislation that Bernie Sanders supported in 2005 forbids all lawsuits against gun makers and sellers. 

After President Obama said last week that he would not support any Democrat who does not favour new gun control measures, Mrs. Clinton has tried to call attention to Mr. Sanders’s vote in 2005 for a bill that shields gun manufacturers and dealers from liability lawsuits. Mr. Sanders was a House member at the time; Mrs. Clinton, then a senator from New York, voted against the bill.

On MSNBC’s “Hardball” on Friday, Mrs. Clinton claimed that the legislation said “no one can sue a gun maker or a gun seller,” and on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday, she said it provided the gun industry with “absolute immunity from any kind of responsibility or liability.”

The bill, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, followed a flurry of lawsuits against the industry by municipalities. It shields gun manufacturers, sellers and their trade associations from liability lawsuits “resulting from the criminal or unlawful misuse” of firearms and ammunition. 

When President George W. Bush signed the measure into law, the National Rifle Association called it “the most significant piece of pro-gun legislation in 20 years.”

On11 January 2016, Mrs. Clinton proposed raising the income tax by four percentage points for people earning more than $5 million a year, an idea virtually out of the Sanders playbook. At the same time, she is aggressively challenging Mr. Sanders on gun control and health care, undertaking relentless attacks on Mr. Sanders that can feel somewhat forced, like portraying him as an ally of the National Rifle Association.

On 12 June 2016, Mrs. Clinton even mocked Mr. Sanders at one point, imitating his defence for supporting a bill shielding gun manufacturers and dealers from liability. “He says, ‘Well, I’m from Vermont,’ ” Mrs. Clinton noted before saying that home-state concerns were not a sufficient explanation.

She is also trying to tap into the popularity of President Obama by embracing his record, and she is dispatching former President Bill Clinton here on Friday for the second time in two weeks — after insisting for months that she was not running for a third term for either man.

China angered by Hillary Clinton tweet on women's rights

Mrs Clinton said in a tweet on Sunday that Chinese President Xi Jinping was "shameless" for hosting a United Nations conference on women's rights that date.

In her Twitter message, Hillary Clinton twitted as follows:

Xi is hosting a meeting on women’s rights at the U.N while persecuting feminists? Shameless.

As per New York Times , President Xi Jinping of China is a co-host of the meeting on U.N Summit Meeting on Women’s Rights though his country imprisoned five feminists this year and President Obama will not attend.

Mr Xi has come under fire for hosting the summit as several women's rights activists were held earlier this year for planning a demonstration against sexual harassment on public transport.

Rights groups say several female human rights activists remain in detention.

It is to be noted that Mrs Clinton has made women's rights a signature part of her campaign.

State media on Monday thus unsurprisingly reacted with fury, with a strongly-worded editorial by The Global Times put out in both English and Chinese and carried widely in other local media outlets.

It accused Mrs Clinton of aping Republican candidate Donald Trump - who has himself made provocative remarks about China - in an attempt to gain votes through China-bashing.

Many people supported Clinton as they were decrying the detention of the activists and the state of women's rights in China.

Said user wbxxxhhh: "Hillary wasn't criticising the arrests of the activists, but instead was criticising their arrests on cooked-up charges."

"Chinese women don't even have the right to reproduce, let alone women's rights," said Te_leinijiangtui, in a reference to China's one-child policy.

It is not certain whether Mrs Clinton has taken note of the Chinese brouhaha yet - if she has, she has yet to give a direct response.

Her campaign team meanwhile continues to press on. One of their latest tweets stressed the importance of women's rights.
