Hillary Clinton’s First Talk
Show after Announcing her Presidential Candidacy
Since announcing her candidacy,
In her first talk-show visit, Hillary Clinton largely remained away from weighty
topics, though she did touch on a couple of serious subjects.
Appearing on The Ellen
DeGeneres Show, which taped earlier in the week and aired
Thursday, the Democratic presidential front-runner Mrs. Clinton addressed
questions of whether, at
67, she might be too old to serve as president.
“I would be the youngest woman ever elected,’’ said
Clinton, echoing a line she used during her campaign kickoff event in
June.2015
She also repeated an apology she first issued earlier this week
over her use of a private email server as secretary of State. She also said she was
disappointed that Republican
candidates didn’t offer more concrete policy ideas during their first debate.
On a lighter note, Clinton
said that : “I’m fine with
Grandma, I’m fine with Madam President.’’
A 5-year-old guest host named
Macey Hensley, who’d memorized a series of presidential factoids, asked Clinton
if it’s true that she hasn’t driven a car in 20 years.
“It’s not quite that long but pretty close,’’ Clinton said, citing Secret Service
protection guidelines. “But
I used to love to drive a car.’’
Other highlights include:
- Clinton performing the
Whip/Nae Nae, a dance from DJ Stephen “Twitch’’ Boss.
- Comedienne Amy Schumer gliding across the stage in a blue body suit and red skates. When DeGeneres refused to join her, she asked Clinton instead. “I love her. I love the fact that she’s going after gun violence,’’ said Clinton.
